Join Business in the Community to maximise the effectiveness of your business’s school outreach work for both young people and your future talent pipeline.

Today, 72 per cent of large companies and 49 per cent of small- and medium-sized enterprises are suffering from technology and engineering skills gaps1. With the continued increased digitalisation of our workplaces and economy, experts predict that this shortage will only grow, ultimately having a significant impact on businesses and communities. Alongside greater essential skills training, there is an opportunity for organisations to engage with schools and support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) teaching, giving young people the best start to their careers and growing future talent pipelines.

Many companies work with schools in an ad hoc and isolated way. Only one in three young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get the vital five good GCSE passes, compared with two in three of their wealthier peers2. With the skills gap continuing to grow, now is the time for us to come together, share learnings, and co-create a solution for STEM.

Supported by Thales, in partnership with Business in the Community’s Digital Champions Network, we will build on our new Playing Fair curriculum toolkit to agree how businesses can strategically and effectively work with schools to deliver STEM curriculum projects that support teaching, learning and attainment, regardless of a young person’s socio-economic background. This event is aimed at those working in corporate responsbility, HR Heads of and people in associated roles who want to learn more about how businesses can work with schools to support STEM. It is open to members and non-members of Business in the Community.
